About
Bounding Pagosa Country, these mountains are the remnants of titanic volcanoes, identified by geologists as the San Juan Volcanic Field. Pagosa Country lies along the southern edge of the eastern San Juans, between the Piedra River to the west and the Navajo River to the east, stretching down to about the Colorado-New Mexico state line. Elevations range from about 6,000 feet to over 12,000 feet.
